I recently finished listening to Glennon Melton Doyle’s second book, Love Warrior (Oprah’s Book Club): A Memoir. [Yes, I said “listening.” The Audible app by Amazon has enabled me to “read” 3-4 books per month on top of whichever paperbacks and hard covers I’m working on at the moment. The app subscription costs $15 per month and you get one book per month for your membership, as well as a free book to start. They offer 2-for-1 specials, frequent deep discounts, and materials sharing. Books range from a few dollars up to $32 each.]
Back to Love Warrior. It is one of the most honest, humble, and inspirational books I have ever read. Her first book, Carry On, Warrior: The Power of Embracing Your Messy, Beautiful Life, is a highly-personal memoir about honoring your journey as a mother. The book is a collection of her motherhood stories from laugh-out-loud funny to cry-on-the-spot honest. My cousin gave it to my mother. They both loved it. I gifted three copies of that book to other mothers and they all loved it. I joined her blog and it was an immediate decision to purchase her second book when I got word of it. Love Warrior is about Glennon’s journey within her body and her marriage. Without giving too much away, any woman who has struggled with her body–image, size, weight, sexuality–MUST READ this book. Glennon shares her dark relationship with her body and that transformation. Secondly, anyone who doesn’t have the same intimate desires as her partner also MUST READ this book. The turmoil in her marriage provided a place for deep discovery and intimacy with herself and her husband. Love Warrior offers more references to motherhood and living amid chaos, broken-heartedness, in-depth personal discovery, and personal and relationship healing. I recommend this book to people almost every day even though I’ve read four others since! Is there room for more kindness and honesty in your life?
